IM Resident Rotations
The IM program rotations are designed to meet the comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and specialty specific rotation requirements of the Categorical Internal Medicine Residency in a clinically diverse population on the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Our diverse resident classes represent a mature, professional, excellence –driven group of physicians who work well together under the guidance of clinical teaching faculty, resident-advisor faculty and support from Baptist Health leadership on campus and the Baptist Health-University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences educational consortium.
With the need to provide organized, team-based care that improves patient satisfaction, outcomes and impacts cost, the program is designed with emphasis on team-care management and post-acute care management of high risk populations including geriatrics.
Addressing population health, tools for self-reflection on one’s clinical practice improvement and reaching rural populations with equipment such as telehealth are integrated into the IM resident rotation schedule. Formally mentored QI projects using Lean Six Sigma methodology with an emphasis on patient safety issues and populations with health care disparities needs are integrated with resident lead roles in Baptist Health North Little Rock administration- identified and approved QI or health care disparities projects.
Our PGY2s and PGY3s are provided with elective time and the flexibility to fashion their own career path under the guidance of faculty mentors. Opportunity to research with support of a PhD level, teaching research specialist hired for the Baptist Health residency programs on the North Little Rock site is available regardless of the career trajectory to hospital medicine, primary care or advanced subspecialty training in fellowship.
